Pullout method

This explainer video dives into the pull-out method (withdrawal method) and its effectiveness as a form of birth control. Despite being one of the most commonly used methods, it is also among the least understood and most mythologised, especially in regions where comprehensive sex education is limited.

The goal was to present the facts clearly and respectfully, helping viewers understand both its risks and how it compares to more reliable contraceptive options.

As part of the larger contraception education series, this episode followed the same cohesive design system I established across the project: flat 2D illustrations, soft but informative color palettes, and a balance between medical accuracy and viewer comfort. The tone had to feel neutral, clear, and non-judgmental, especially because the audience might include people already using this method.

Challenges & Creative Decisions

The biggest creative challenge in this video was stripping away the cultural assumptions and misinformation that often surround the pull-out method, while staying tactful in visual storytelling. I avoided exaggeration or fear-driven framing and instead leaned on clear, paced narration paired with simple metaphors to explain risk levels, timing, and biological context.

One of the main challenges of this explainer was the need to depict sex positions clearly to explain how the pull-out method works, while remaining respectful and sensitive to cultural and viewer comfort levels.

To address this, I used simplified outline illustrations of body forms and positions rather than detailed or explicit imagery. This approach allowed the animation to communicate the necessary information effectively without causing discomfort or distraction.
