How do we get pregnant
Project Brief
This explainer was developed for a health platform to visually communicate the biological process of conception. The goal was to make the content accessible and reassuring for a general audience, particularly those exploring fertility and reproductive health.
1. Information Gathering
Medical sources and educational materials from verified health institutions were reviewed to ensure accuracy and clarity. Content was carefully simplified to focus on essential steps, ovulation, fertilisation, and implantation, without overwhelming viewers with clinical jargon.
2. Content Planning & Structure
The animation followed a clear linear sequence:
Ovulation and egg release
Sperm journey and fertilisation
Implantation in the uterus
Each step was introduced with supporting labels and visual transitions, guiding the viewer through the process in a calm, informative tone.
3. Design Execution
I used Illustrator to create clean, soft-styled vector illustrations of internal anatomy and biological elements, using a colour palette suited to health education. The animation was built in After Effects, using smooth motion and timing to reinforce clarity. Simple icons, particles, and directional flows helped convey movement and interaction at each stage.
4. Visual Strategy
After review by the platform's medical advisors, minor edits were made for anatomical precision and inclusivity in language. Additional emphasis was placed on timing and spacing to allow key moments to land clearly, especially during fertilisation.
5. Outcome
The animation was published as part of an online educational series and received positive engagement from both users and healthcare professionals. It was particularly effective for demystifying early-stage reproductive processes in a way that felt clear, trustworthy, and non-intimidating.
