Israel defence system
Project Brief
This infographic set explains Israel’s multi-layered defence system in response to Iran’s April 2024 missile attack. It simplifies complex military technology into clear, accessible visuals for use in news coverage.
1. Information Gathering
The visuals were created in response to Iran’s large-scale missile and drone attack on Israel in April 2024. I sourced verified data from global defense reports, government releases, and worked directly with a journalist who provided up-to-date counts and contextual information.
2. Content Planning & Structure
Given the complexity of the topic, I broke it down into three infographic sections:
Volume and type of projectiles launched
How the Iron Dome defense system works
The layered structure of Israel’s full missile defense architecture
This helped structure the story visually in a way that’s digestible and educational for general audiences.
3. Design Execution
I used Adobe Illustrator to design the bar chart and visual schematics, with consistent styling, clear hierarchy, and color-coding to enhance clarity. Each section uses minimal text with strong iconography to ensure readability at a glance.
I paid special attention to maintaining neutral tone and fact-based clarity, as the topic is politically sensitive. An animated version was also needed for TV, that I created with Adobe After Effects.
4. Visual Strategy
I shared early drafts with a news editor and revised the layout based on feedback, adjusting the hierarchy of labels and fine-tuning contrast for mobile visibility. I also reworded a few titles to avoid overly technical language.
5. Outcome
The infographic was used in a digital article and reposted across news accounts on social media. It received positive feedback for helping readers understand a complex topic in just a few visuals. It was particularly effective in explaining the layered missile defense concept, which was cited by many users in comments and shares. based on that we also created a version for the broadcast
