Nose Surgery Explainer

Project Brief

This visual explainer was produced for a health platform to demystify the process of nose surgery (rhinoplasty). The objective was to clearly illustrate each surgical step for patients considering the procedure, using approachable and anatomically accurate visuals.

1. Information Gathering

Medical sources were reviewed, including surgeon-authored guides and procedural outlines from trusted health institutions. The goal was to simplify clinical language while ensuring the visuals accurately reflected standard surgical steps, from initial incision to recovery.

2. Content Planning & Structure

The content was structured around the three key phases of the surgery: preparation, surgical steps, and post-operative outcomes. Each stage was visually represented to build viewer understanding progressively, with pauses and labels designed to highlight decision points and structural changes.

3. Design Execution

I used Daz Studio to create and pose anatomically correct 3D models of the head and nose, focusing on realism while keeping the visuals digestible. Key stills and renders were refined in Photoshop, with overlays and labels added. The full sequence was animated in After Effects, using subtle motion to guide the viewer through complex actions without overwhelming them.

4. Visual Strategy

After internal review by the health content team, feedback focused on tone, requesting that the visuals be less clinical and more user-friendly. Colour adjustments and simplified anatomy were introduced to balance educational value with emotional accessibility.

5. Outcome

The explainer was published as part of an online guide and received positive feedback from both clinicians and users for its clarity and tone. It helped reduce uncertainty for prospective patients and was later reused across social channels as part of an awareness campaign.
